Poster analysis - paranormal

The first thing i notice about this poster is the title, the red font on the black background grabs your attention and draws your concentration to the title of the film, the release date of the film is also in red which has the same effect as the title which is important because even at a quick glance someone will know the title and when they can go and see it.
The poster has multiple reviews on it, all of which assure the audience that the film is worth watching and 'one of the scariest movies of all time'. Reviews are great and effective on posters as it tells the audience that other people like them, have those views on the film. On our poster we will use a black background and red font for the release date and title. We will also include reviews but with star ratings which is not included on this poster.

Costume

In our second shot the character is wearing a coat and black jeans. Having the character wear a coat suggests the film is set in a cold, wet place which is a common theme in horror films, some of which include; 'Friday the 13th'  'The Amityville horror' and 'Halloween'. Coats can also be used in horror films to add connotations to characters. It could be used to suggest the character is weak and that they are vulnerable to the elements. Often paired with this is would be an antagonist that is wearing no sort of coat which makes the antagonist seem more powerful. Another use for coats, in particular puffy coats would be to make one of the victims seem big and powerful before anything happens to them, this further elevates the perceived threat of the antagonist. Generally the antagonist would wear dark clothing in horror films but that wouldn't be possible in our film, although having the protagonist wearing dark jeans still gives the same impression, it gives the idea that where the film is set is not safe.

poster analysis - resident evil: afterlife

The title of this film gives us a lot of information and suggests a lot:

  • The use of the colon tells us there is more than one film in the resident evil franchise, which is helpful as it suggests the franchise is successful and therefore likely to be a good film. This will not apply to our poster.
  • The E in evil is much bigger and more pronounced than any other E on the poster which draws attention to the type of film it will be and also makes it obvious that 'evil' will be one of the themes, which will grab he target audiences attention.
  •  The fact the title is in a different, much more interesting font than the information about the release takes you away a little from the fact the film in fiction, and tells us the film is not merely ordinary.
  • The fact the character on the poster is leaning on the title and it is slanted gives us the idea that she can contest the resident evil in the film, and that she is likely to be the protagonist.
  • The backdrop is dark and it is raining which gives us the idea the film is not set in an ot very  nice place.

Potential problems with creating our film

1.Continuity - Although we will have less trouble with continuity compared to our opening scenes last year we could still have a problem. During the filming we will have multiple costumes as the film is set over multiple days, so each clip we will be wearing different costume which means it shouldn't been too much hassle, although we need to make sure not to be complacent as we could still have trouble. Some of the costume may get damaged and if this is the case, we should place scenes with the costume intact before the scenes where it gets wrecked.

2. Equipment error/breakage - We will need a tripod for some of our shots and one, maybe two cameras to create the trailer. If during filming one of the two cameras break we can most likely still film the rest although, if the tripod breaks we will not be able to do some shots which will delay us as we will have to film another day.

3. Re-filming - If we realise we need, or want to change something we will have to film atleast that scene again, although it could cause us to have to film multiple scenes just in order not to ruin continuity. Doing this could cause quite a long delay.

4. Actor illness - If we have filmed shots with a certain character but they then fall ill and cannot film anymore we will could be left with scenes that we are unable to film. This problem could be overcome by  filming all of that characters scenes in one day.
