Paranormal Activity 3 trailer analysis and audience profiling

This trailer is perfect example of what we want ours to be like, it it a very effective trailer and uses a large amount of techniques that we could use in our trailer to make it more fitting to the horror genre. The grainy, static fades are great as it adds the connotation of something going wrong. This is something that could be quite easy to add in but could be effective, the only downside the this method is that our film is unlikely to be all POV or handheld camera shots. The black screen titles are simple but effective at introducing the story, pairing this with the introduction of the girls playing is extremely effective as although it is introducing the story, the audience will be confused and wondering why and how do these children fit into the film. just as we are comfortable with the peaceful clip a woman gets dragged across the room accompanied by a scream, this is great at exciting the audience and making them jump, which is exactly what the horror audience wants. The trailer has dialogue which gets the audience asking questions, as this is happening titles come up on the screen assuring the audience that they will find out if they watch the film. The trailer finishes with a climax but it takes a tiny bit longer than you think, when the room goes black your waiting for something to happen but it doesn't which increases the audiences tension considerably, making the climax much more effective.

With our film being very similar to Paranormal Activity 3, and knowing that is was hugely successful, makes it clear to us that using the same convention that it used is a good way to go. The scenes in the trailer give the audience exactly what they want and keep them on edge and makes them jump, if the taster of the film is great then you can only assume that the actual film will be amazing.
